“Gemeinnützige Guitareschule by Franz Bathioli, a Translation with Commentary by Matt Cahow is a doctoral dissertation for the completion of a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology.

Bathioli was an Italian-born guitarist in the early 19th century who first self-published his guitar method in 1823 while living in Vienna. The method was extremely ambitious and is full of detailed explanations regarding the author's views on all aspects of playing the guitar. There is also original music composed by Bathioli. In total, this dissertation is 425 pages in length.
